2020 a mixed bag, governance experts say

Governance experts have provided a mixed assessment of how Malawi has faired on governance and service delivery in 2020.

According to Catholic Commission of Justice and Peace (CCJP) and the Church and Society of Livingstonia Synod, Malawi has shown some improvements in efforts to end corruption but continue to struggle in attaining economic independence.

CCJP national coordinator Boniface Chibwana singled out the increased funding to state governance institutions as one milestone the country has made in showing its commitment to reduce corruption.

Moses Mkandawire, Executive Director of Church and Society, said the country has lost a lot economically in the past year due to political instability that was a result of disputed presidential elections results and Covid-19.
