Malawi substantively reduces cerebral malaria cases

The Ministry of Health has indicated that the country has substantially reduced cerebral Malaria cases.

Speaking to YONECO FM online Deputy Director of  Preventive Health Services responsible for Malaria, Dr Michael Kayange said as at present children are dying from severe Malaria and not cerebral Malaria.

He also mentioned that research for malaria has been greatly affected because of the reduction of the cases.

“The Malaria research project at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital is struggling to recruit cerebral malaria cases because of this reduction,” said Kayange.

He attributed the reduction of the cases to increased awareness on the disease and intensification of preventive measures such as distribution of mosquito nets.
