Six buyers fined for using uncertified weighing scales

The Dowa First Grade Magistrate’s Court has sentenced six people to pay K60, 000 fine each or in default to serve 2 months in prison for buying farm produce using uncertified weighing scales.
The convicts have been identified as Langton John, 36, Kondwani Giniva, 36, Ganizani Yohane, 28, Mabvuto Katengeza, 42, Snedi Jeffrey, 26, Mbedze James, 27 and Lambat Mukiza, 24.
The three were arrested after they were found buying farm produce mainly Soya beans and groundnuts using uncertified weighing scales contrary to Section 21 of the Malawi Bureau of Standards.
The convicts have since paid the fines while the weighing scales have been forfeited to the Malawi government.
