Police decry recurrence of defilement cases

Mulanje Police Station has condemned the recurrence of defilement cases at a time various stakeholders are advocating against the same.

Mulanje police publicist Gresham Ngwira made the call following the arrest of 28-year-old man, Patrick Khamula for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old niece and 28-year-old traditional doctor, James Juma Banda for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl.

According to Ngwira, it is unfortunate that the people that are entrusted to protect girls are also perpetrators of such acts.

“We are really concerned because these people were supposed to be taking a leading role in protecting the girl child”.

Ngwira says police will continue ensuring that perpetrators are brought to book.
