The Roads Authority (RA) in conjunction with Lilongwe City Council has disclosed its intention to upgrade the Kenyatta Road and Sharrar Street as one way of reducing traffic congestion in the city.

According to a statement, the Kenyatta Road upgrading will start from Parliament roundabout via Bisnowatty up to Tsoka Market commonly known as Lizulu market, while Sharrar Street Road will begin from four ways up to the junction with the M01 Road.

The statement further said both roads will upgrade from two lanes to six lanes in order reduce traffic congestion in the city.

The authority has also disclosed plans to construct a bridge across Lingadzi River and construction of new cloverleaf interchange replacing the current roundabout at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

The two entities have since asked companies and individuals who have their services, billboard and any other objects erected along the roads to relocate them to pave way for the construction exercise.

According to statement, all road users have been asked to follow traffic control signs placed along the road to ensure safe travelling.
