Immigration Dept denies employees firing reports

By Gertrude Muyaya

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services has refuted reports that it plans to fire some of its employees who secured their jobs dubiously.

This comes after the department released an internal memo requesting all officers who joined in 2018 to present their original Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) for verification which has raised allegations that the department wants to expel some of its employees.

Speaking to YFM, the department’s Public Relations Officer, Wellington Chiponde said the verification exercise is an ongoing process which happens to ensure that its employees’ achievements and qualifications are well documented in their system.

“This exercise helps to establish some of the expertise our officers have gained considering that we are living in a digital era hence we would like to update the digital files of our officers and not expelling them as some say,” Chiponde said.
