Opposition MPs demand Mtambo’s public apology

Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) have asked Minister of Civic Education and National Unity Timothy Mtambo to publicly apologize to Malawians for leading what they call “violent protests”.

According to the lawmakers, Mtambo led a series of violent demonstrations which saw people’s property being damaged and looted.

But responding to the call upon delivering a ministerial statement on the status of the National Peace and Unity Architecture in Malawi, Mtambo maintained that he cannot apologize.

“These accusations are petty and they have no evidence, and if somebody says apologize laugh, apologize for doing what? I never did anything wrong.
So I would like to advise the proponents of the same that it’s high time they healed, I can strongly see a lot of hatred, this kind of hatred will not take us anywhere,” said Mtambo.

He accused the opposition lawmakers of political hatred.

“We need to love each other, I personally went a lot of pains through that time, and I had an avengance spirit, I should have been following some people right now.

“But I forgave them all and I thank God that I have the responsibility to unite the country,” said Mtambo.

He told the House that very soon his Ministry will be bringing the Peace and Unity Bill which will, among others, sustain peace and national unity arising out of harmonised and coordinated efforts in conflict prevention, conflict management and conflict resolution.
