Government has assured caregivers across the country that authorities are finalising processing their honoraria.
The assurance follows continued concerns from the caregivers and mentors who complained that government is delaying to pay them the pledged honoraria.
According to Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Patricia Kaliati, Treasury is finalising processing the payment.
“These 2000 mentors are going to be given their honorarium of K20,000 each so that their living status can improve,” she said.
Kaliati added that the payments have delayed because the position of caregivers and mentors is not recognised in the government system.
She further said government cannot put them on the list of salary earners because they are not established in the system.
However she had assured them that Government still struggling to pay caregivers government is pushing harder to address the challenge.
There are over 2000 caregivers across the country who are providing Early Childhood Development (ECD) services.
