Lilongwe man gets 14 years for defilement

The First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe on Friday sentenced 28-year old Michael Kambuzi to 14 years in prison for defiling an eight-year old girl after enticing her with two pieces of kamba puffs.

According to State Prosecutor Vincent Ntalawe, the convict committed the crime on January 21, 2022 in his grandfather’s house at Chisikwa Village under Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe District.

“At the time, the victim was with her friend washing dishes when Kambuzi invited her into his grandfather’s house. He defiled and gave her two pieces of kamba puffs before threatening her into silence.”

“When the girl got back home, she spilled the beans, leading to her defiler’s arrest,” reported Lilongwe Police Station Deputy Publicist, Foster Benjamin.”

During hearing of the trial, Kambuzi pleaded not guilty prompting the State to parade five witnesses whose evidence satisfied the court to convict Kambuzi.

Following the testimony, Magistrate Chakaka Nyirenda agreed with the State’s plea and handed Kambuzi a 14-year jail term.

The 28-year old Kambuzi comes from Chisikwa Village Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe District.
