MACRA shuts down AMPEX

Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has shut down AMPEX Courier Limited offices and arrested its division manager and an accountant due to illegal courier operation

According to a press statement signed by MACRA’s Director General, Daud Suleman, the closure follows reports that the company was still operating contrary to a directive by the MACRA Board, instructing it to halt operations until it settles its outstanding license fees.

MACRA has also issued a notice enforced action against 27 communications services operators in the country for non-complaint to communications license.

According to the statement MACRA Board had a meeting on  April 14, 2022, where among the issues, the board agreed to the renewal of the courier service’s license subject to settling of outstanding license fees, amounting to K29 million.

Other communications companies that the authority has ordered to stop operating, include National Bus Company, Angaliba Television and others over cancellation of license offer, while Access communications limited, Malawi Digital Broadcasting Network Limited have had their license revoked.
