IPTE 14 teachers threaten protests

By Blessings Bwanalih

Concerned IPTE 14 teachers, who have not been fully employed for two years, have threatened to hold protests in the next 14 days if government fails to act on their concerns.

According to a letter signed by Chairperson of concerned unemployed IPTE 14 teachers, Nation Banda, government continues to train new cohorts while they still remain unemployed.

It further says it is very hard being on contracts receiving 80 000 while their fellow teachers are enjoying as they are fully employed.

Secretary of the grouping, Yamikani Banda told YFM Online, they are against the criteria that local government is using when recruiting other cohorts by using interviews, saying they were already assessed by Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) to be eligible.

He also added that they have been writing letters but are always ignored.

Banda said the letters seeking for intervention and clarification on recruitment have been addressed to the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Local Government, The Office of President and Cabinet (OPC) and Ministry of Finance and Economic affairs.
