MRCS launches K430 million package for floods survivors

Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) has commended the Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) for its unwavering support towards bailing out households that were affected by Cyclone Ana.

DoDMA’s Deputy Director, Peter Lackson Chimangeni, was speaking on Tuesday at the launch of a cash distribution exercise under the Emergency Appeal program by MRCS held at Bereu School ground in Chikwawa district.

In his address, Chimangeni assured the households that government through DoDMA will continue to work with the organization to improve the people’s welfare.

Director of Programs at MRCS, Prisca Chisala indicated that the society continues to remember those that were affected, on their way to recover and rebuild their lives.

The program will disburse over K430 million to more than 5000 families from Nsanje, Chikwawa, Phalombe and Salima districts.

Each household is expected to receive money ranging from K40, 000 to over K100, 000 in the whole exercise.
