Former president of the United Democratic Front (UDF) Atupele Muluzi has called upon the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to be impartial and independent in its fight against graft.
Muluzi said the Bureau has a lot of work to do in fighting corruption and should not work on behalf of other forces.
He said: “We have big problems in the country and the message that we are getting is that the issue of corruption in Malawi is very bad and Malawians are looking for justice.
“Malawians are tired of corruption and they want the ACB to an institution that is independent and that is fighting corruption.”
He added that he was invited to ACB offices to testify as a witness having served as minister of lands, housing and urban development in connection with the allocation of plot numbers Bwaila 13/127 and 13/128 in Lilongwe.
“I am a law-abiding citizen and that is why I came here under the request from the ACB to answer some questions,” maintained Muluzi.
Muluzi has since stressed his record remains clean in as far as issues to with corruption are concerned.
The graft-bursting body is yet to make a public comment over outcome of Muluzi’s interview.
