A 7-year-old girl has tragically died after falling into a septic tank at her parents’ home in Chirimba Township in Blantyre.

Blantyre police deputy spokesperson Sergeant Aubrey Singanyama identified the deceased as Alisha Banda.

Singanyama said on November 11, 2022, the toddler was playing in the rain with friends at her parents’ home but accidentally fell into the unfinished septic tank.

“Well-wishers managed to rescue her from the tank and rushed her to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival,” Singanyama said.

Postmortem results revealed that death was due to suffocation.

“We are advising the public to always monitor their children to avoid accidents of this nature,” he said.

Alisha Banda was from Suya village in the area of Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre district.
