MDF to deploy 731 troops to DRC

The Malawi Defense Force (MDF) says it is ready for the 2023 peace keeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

MDF Chief of Staff, Major General George Jaffu Jnr, said this in Machinga district during the official closing ceremony of the Malawi Battalion 14 pre-deployment training.

Major General Jaffu, said they have successfully trained 731 troops of the Malawi Battalion 14 Force Intervention Brigade 10, whom he said are competent to support the peace keeping mission effectively.

He urged the troops to be disciplined during the mission saying it is a paramount tool in the success of the mission.

United States Ambassador to Malawi, David Young, applauded the MDF for the initiative saying it will greatly contribute to the peace keeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

British High Commissioner to Malawi, David Pert said the work being done by MDF cannot go unnoticed and added that the British Embassy is committed in assisting Malawi in as far as the training of peacekeepers in the country is concerned.
