Two men jailed for requesting to buy human placenta

The Mangochi First Grade Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 22-year-old Richard Lameck and 23-year-old Friday Dickson to three months in prison for requesting to buy human placenta from a nurse at one of the health centres in the district.

State Prosecutor Ted Namaona told the court that the two men approached a nurse at her house after she had knocked off from her night shift.

Namaona said the men told the nurse to sell them the human placenta on behalf of a Mozambican herbalist.

He added that the nurse rejected the business offer, and the matter was later reported to Malombe Police Unit.

Passing the sentence, First Grade Magistrate Roy Katutu said the jail term should serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders.
