Malawi’s female referee to officiate Women’s World Cup

Malawi’s football FIFA assistant female referee, Bernadette Kwimbira Mzika has expressed happiness after being selected by the world football governing body, FIFA to officiate the 2018 Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup in France.

The Zomba based referee is among the seven referees from African continent, selected to officiate the competition, which will run from August 5 to 24.

Kwimbira is the only Malawian female to officiate the matches at the world level.

Kwimbira Mzika said: “The message came as a surprise as you can imagine it’s not easy for someone to be trusted for that task considering that the continent has many talented referees who could also be fit for the job but they chose me and am very proud.”

She further expressed confidence saying she is aware that she is representing Malawi nation hence promised to work professionally in order to show the world that Malawi has a talent.

The lines lady attributed her success to the encouragement she always receive from her family and all the soccer fans.

His involvement in officiating international games started way back in 2015, when she traveled to Canada where she officiated Fifa women’s Cup.

Later in 2016 she was also among the officiating team in Olympic Games which took place in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

She has also travelled to Portugal twice for the AGAF tournament.
