Divorce fuelling cases of children living in the streets

Police in Zomba have disclosed that high divorce cases in the district are contributing to increased cases of children living in the city’s streets.

Zomba Police Victim Support Unit (VSU) Coordinator Sergeant Cathy Phiri said the number of children living in the city’s streets has been increasing due to increased cases of divorce.

Phiri highlighted that divorce leaves children stranded hence they end up in the streets.

She said in the streets, the children are therefore to all sorts of abuse and violence which in certain cases it also cost their lives.

Phiri therefore urged families in the country to prioritize other solutions of resolving marriage differences rather than divorce.
