Malawi children call for action to end abuse

Children in Malawi have asked the government and other relevant stakeholders to unite towards addressing challenges that they face in the country.

The call was made during the commemoration of the 2018 Day of African Child in Lilongwe on Saturday.

The day which was being commemorated under the theme “Leave No Child Behind for Africa`s Development”, brought together different children from various schools with the aim of voicing out their concerns.

One of the children`s representatives, Patience Chipsagule, commended the government for recognising the special day.

“I want to thank the government for organizing this day so that children can express their views.”

She said children are facing challenges such as defilement and discrimination against those with disabilities.

Patience therefore asked those in authority to act on all issues that hinder children in the country.

Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, Dr Jean Kalilani emphasized on the need for different stakeholders to approach government whenever they are to work on issues to do with children in the country.
