Mec to meet stakeholders on wards, constituencies demarcation

Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) says it will embark on a comprehensive review of constituency and ward boundaries exercise this month as mandated by the constitution.

Mec Director of Media and Public Relations Sangwani Mwafulirwa said they be holding consultation meetings with various stakeholders starting with political leaders from April 6-16, 2021.

Speaking to YFM Mwafulirwa said various stakeholders including civil society organizations, academia, traditional leaders as well as the media just to mention some will be consulted during the exercise.

“This will be a very transparent process, therefore stakeholders should not fear that there will be a blackout of information because all consultations will be made,” said Mwafulirwa.

Malawi Electoral Commission conducted the last comprehensive review of constituency and ward boundaries in 1998 contrary to the constitutional provision of such processes to be conducted every five years.
