MDF soldier killed in DRC

One Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldier was killed on Monday while on a peace-keeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

MDF Acting Public Information Officer Major Emmanuel Kelvin Mlelemba has identified the fallen soldier as Lance Corporal Chitenji Kamanga.

Major Mlelemba said Kamanga, 28, was killed when a Malawi Battalion Base in Kiliya was attacked by unknown illegal armed group.

“Malawi Defence Force has lost a courageous, hardworking and disciplined female soldier,” said Major Mlelemba.

Late Kamanga was based at Malawi Maritime Force Headquarters in Monkey-bay, Mangochi.

She hailed from Mbayani Village, Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre.

Her remains will be repatriated to Malawi upon completion of procedures by the United Nations (UN).
