Maize purchase starts off without hurdles

The Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) has indicated that it has purchased 26,000 metric tonnes of maize, three weeks after opening the market.

Speaking to YONECO FM online, ADMARC Public Relations Officer Agnes Ndovi said the market has not registered any challenges this far.

Commenting on the quality of maize, Ndovi said farmers are delivering the maize according to the standards that ADMARC had specified on prior to opening the marketing.

ADMARC is set to buy 1 million metric tonnes of the staple grain at the minimum price of K150 per kilogram,as set by government.

This season ADMARC has set aside K62 billion to purchase maize from farmers and the process will be done in phases.
