3 police officers, 2 civilians die in Dowa road accident

Three police officers and two civilians have died following a two-vehicle collision at Chikho near Mponera in Dowa on Monday evening.
 
National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera said the accident occurred when a police vehicle registration number MP 2562 Toyota Land Cruiser pick up collided with a Scania Truck registration number DA 9503 which was trying to overtake another vehicle.
 
Kadadzera identified the deceased all from Mponera Police Station as Detective Inspector Frederick Kasuzumira, Sub Inspector Joseph Thawale and driver Sub Inspector Philipina Benson.
 
“The other two civilians are Vincent Sankhulani, 26, from Kaomba Village in Traditional Authority Nsakambewa in Dowa and Jasintha Kampanyanga, 40, from Kavulala Village, Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi,” he said.
 
Kadadzera said one other police officer, Sub Inspector Collins Simbobe has survived the accident but with multiple injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
 
“The Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service and all police officers are deeply saddened by the loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families in this difficult time,” he said.
