MPs worried with lack of specialised medical treatment

A plea has gone out to Ministry of Health to seriously work on addressing the inefficiencies of medical specialists and equipment in the health sector.

According to Chairperson for the Parliamentary Committee on Health and HIV/AIDS Matthews Ngwale, the country has, for a long time, been sending patients abroad for different specialised treatment which he observes that it is costly.

Said Ngwale: “This country sends patients abroad for treatment. They go abroad for eye problems, heart problems for children, and cancer for grown ups.”

“So what we are saying as a committee, we said, what can we do about this? Luckily enough we said, look, the Cancer Centre is being obstructed.”

Whilst commending government for constructing the first ever Cancer Centre,  Ngwale has faulted authorities for delaying the completion of the Hospital.

“And the government has said the Cancer Centre is just about to finish, we have constructed bankers year after year, but nothing has been happening,” Ngwale said.

“So we asking the Minister here to be a little more serious this time and tell us so that this is banker story of the Cancer Centre should end.”

The Chairperson has also reiterated on the need for Ministry to invest in child health care in dealing with diseases which affect children.

“The heart disease for children, we have them, nobody has looked at it and we are looking forward to making that one our second project,” Ngwale said.

“Now one wonders. What should we do? Government has done this, but I meant it didn’t. But now the ministry will now be talking about our procurement and stuff like this as a country.”
