CDEDI gives govt 7-day ultimatum to revoke citizenship statuses

The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the minister of Homeland Security Ken Zikhale Ng’oma to revoke statuses of 115 foreign nationals who corruptly acquired Malawi citizenship between the period of 2012 and 2015.

The ultimatum follows a High Court judgement of 2020 which found former minister of Homeland Security, Uladi Musa guilty for facilitating the process of illegal naturalization statuses of the foreign nationals.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lilongwe on Monday, CDEDI’s executive director Sylvester Namiwa said those who illegally got citizenship impose security threats to the country, hence swift and patriotic actions need to be done.

Namiwa has come to revoke those illegal naturalization statuses as the government plans to embark on relocating refugees and asylum seekers back to Dzaleka refugee camp from April 15, 2023.
