Two die in a road accident in Dedza

A motorcyclist, who is yet to be identified, and a passenger have died in a road accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Ziboliboli, Kapiri turn-off along Balaka-Salima M5 road in Dedza District.

Dedza Police Public Relations Officer, Beatrice Jefita, told Malawi News Agency (Mana) that the accident occurred when a Scania bus driven by James Dennis, 60, of Machowa Village in Traditional Authority Lundu in Blantyre, collided with the motorcycle which was joining the main road from the right.

“The bus, registration number BUNN 6883, was coming from the direction of Golomoti, heading for Salima along the M5 Road, and upon arrival at Ziboliboli Kapiri turn-off, the collision occurred,” said Jefita.

She said following the impact, the motor cyclist and the passenger sustained severe head injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Mua Mission Hospital.

The passenger (Mrs Stevelio Mateyu (passenger), 28) hailed from Chijero Village in Traditional Authority Kachindamoto in Dedza District, while the body of the motorcyclist is being kept at Mua Hospital waiting for identification.
