MISA Malawi engages govt, private sector in fundraising drive

The Media Institute for Southern Africa (MISA Malawi Chapter) says it intends to raise funds amounting to K20 million aiming at completing a training center at its Mtolankhani House headquarters in Lilongwe.

According to the Institute’s chairperson Golden Matonga, MISA Malawi initially planned to raise the said funds, but with the recent 44 percent kwacha devaluation, the media mother body might follow up with other initiatives to cater the deficit.

He said: “We are in the process of reviewing how much we need, but because we had already planned this event, we are going ahead we hope that will raise a figure close to K20 million which we initially planned for then we might to follow up with other fundraising initiatives.

“Iam happy to note here that we have received overwhelming support from various government agencies and corporate organisations which have supported us already with massive contributions towards this initiative.”

Matonga added that MISA Malawi has organised a fundraising dinner and dance event slated for 2nd December 2023 at Sunbird Capital Hotel as one way of raising the money.

“We are currently constructing a training center at Mtolankhani House which is almost at roofing stage. We will use the funds to complete the project and turn it into a modern state of art facility,” he said.

The MISA chairperson has since pleaded with people in the country to patronize the forthcoming event as a noble means of supporting the media, describing it a very important instrument of the country`s democracy.

“Come and support a very important instrument of our democracy – media. But it’s also the end of a long year, come and have fun. Bring your loved ones and make sure your shoes are comfortable for dancing.

“We have lined up a guest list that include key note speakers coming from the world of business and other industry leaders, representatives of the highest levels of government office, media CEOs and other journalists, and members of the general public,” said Matonga.

The theme for this year’s fundraising event is: “Media as a Strategic Partner for Private Sector Growth and Viability”.

Talented superstar Faith Mussa is scheduled to spice up the event with music.
